Wishes

Don't you just sometimes wish life came with an erase button? That you could remove memories like a surgeon or like Dumbledore in Harry Potter? If you see, or read something, that wish you could forget because it makes you feel inferior, or just because it is another niggling negative? Don't you just wish.... That's the thing: it's a wish.
We wish a thousand things for our lives, to be thinner, taller, more successful, more content. We even bestow these on children, wishing innocence and love and prosperity for them. We grow up longing for a better circumstance. We desire to be princesses and firemen; those dreams fade with age but the pining doesn't. I could say we need to stop longing for the lives of others and go out and get it, but most of the time we can't. Wishes are just that: dreams, elusive fantasies and unattainable desires. But these are only granted in fairy-tales. With castles and happy endings. And here we are, back as the princess.

You can't pretend. You can't even fool yourself. You can make all the comparisons you want, try and integrate personality traits, change the people you hang around with but then... Are we being ourselves? Obviously no. Because we don't want to be.“Looking back, I guess I used to play-act all the time. For one thing, it meant I could live in a more interesting world than the one around me.”― Marilyn Monroe
These are the cards we are dealt, a joker in every pack. This is how the cookie crumbles, easily and into a million pieces. It's just the way the world works. Would you have it any other way? Once you get there, to who you are, and no longer yearn for the impossible, it is a sense of achievement. Look what I went through to get here.
Wishing never makes it so..... Only time can make you forget or make you grow and disregard the childish delusions of yesterday . Stop wishing, start living.

“Wishing, like sipping a glass of punch, or pulling aside a bearskin rug in order to access a hidden trapdoor in the floor, is merely a quiet way to spend one's time before the candles are extinguished on one's birthday cake.” - Lemony Snicket
