Warning label

Whilst researching the historical context of to kill a mockingbird I saw several shocking videos and well... It made me ashamed to be human. We have a rich history full of heroes, culture, great empires and a penchant for overthrowing evil dictators. We are only just beginningexploring and inventing and that's brilliant! But sometimes I think we should come with a warning label: Run.
For all our glory, there is a rotten underside. We have, and still do, persecuted and attacked and killed people who are/were different; we hung them from trees for entertainment. Wars that claimed thousands started like playground fights over land or religion.
On a TV narration, someone once asked "where does this darkness come from? That we now send our children into the world like soldiers, hoping for their safe return, knowing that their fragile hearts will be chipped by the horrors of this world." I thought it's not the world, the earth, its us. "does this darkness have a name?" Yes, humanity.
For every light, there is dark. For every birth, a death. For every saint ,(and I hate to be cliched!) a sinner. But for every dark past, there is a future: we cannot let these things hinder us.
Our souls may set in darkness
But they will rise in perfect light
I have loved the stars too fondly
To be fearful of the night
